What lies between Earth and Sky
Emulating traditional historical landscapes in which artists over time have depicted expansive images of nature imbued with political, and spiritual undertones, Cabrera creates a found object construction depicting an abstracted geographical landscape. Continuing with the artists interest in engaging audiences in dialogue around immigrant labor realities, and true the promise of progress of the American Dream, What lies between earth and sky? is a large scale site-specific work that encompasses all who are confronted by it. Cabrera’s landscape is made up of a horizontal arrangement of blue buckets, mops and brooms typically used by immigrant domestic workers or transnational care-workers as part of a rapidly growing field in the United States.
